InDesign Thoughts Shafa Hawladar

Five things that I did with the program last spring were: 

At the beginning of the year, I made a list of  5 things that I wanted to complete this year, like getting good grades, finishing stuff that I was unable to   complete last year, my drawings and more.

I went to the Metropolitan Museum  of Art and  took some pictures of different artifacts, and described everything that I saw in the blog. There were so many cool things that I couldn't choose which one I liked best. The lion statue and pottery shown below are some  of the many artifacts I saw in the museum.

After describing the artifacts and everything else that we saw in the museum, we had to write a 300 word reflection on all that we saw in the museum.

In another one of the assignments, we had to pick 3 letters and any random word and then trace them out with different type fonts that we have and  talk about the process of how we did it in the blog.

 In another assignment, we had to choose 3 letters only and draw them however we wanted(ex: Big, small, sideways, etc.) Similar to what we did in the previous assignment but without the word. We also had to describe how we did it as well.

Gestalt on Grid Shafa Hawladar

                                                                              This one is  Proximity.  I didn't really know what to do, so I had to look up some examples and decided to  change the paragraph to be Justify and made the letters closer together. I tried not to do too much as proximity was meant to be close together and it was already like that, I think it turned out ok in the end.             This one is Continuity. This one was was of the more fun ones to do, and it was pretty easy to think of something for this one. The letters with less spacing ended up looking pretty interesting compared to the more spaced out ones, it was meant to be super close together to super spaced out. I think it turned out to be alright.                                                                           This one is  Similarity. I didn't really know what to do for this one but   decided to mess around with the paragraph aligning options and thought that flipping them would work. I

Portrait In Type Shafa Hawladar

This one is called Portrait in type. For this assignment, we had to create a person out of letters/symbols that are only found on the keyboard. This one was quite difficult to do, but was fun nonetheless. The hardest part to do was probably the jacket, as it had a lot of folds and stuff and  I mostly used Vs and |s to make the folds.  As for the hair, it was also difficult but not as much, I didn't really know what to do at first so I mostly ended up using parenthesis for an outline, but later put Xs, Vs, Us, and Ws to make the hair more detailed later on. While making the hair more detailed, I decided to start putting random symbols and stuff to darken the clothing colors and ended up looking different shades, which was pretty interesting. I think it turned out to look alright.

Breaking the Grid Shafa Hawladar

For this assignment, we had to use the 6 * 6 grids and break them using poster elements like titles/subtitles and other things. At first, I didn't really have an idea on how to do this assignment, but  I remembered stuff about type hierarchy and  googled  some fonts that would go well together. Looking for the pictures was probably the harder part of this assignment since a lot of them couldn't fit in the canvas and were quite pixelated. After a while, I managed to find some pictures that fit in the screen and an actual PNG that didn't have a secret background behind it. Remembering some stuff from type hierarchy helped with choosing text size and whether to use bold or italic and all for the other fonts. The yellow outline on the King of pop text  was mostly an accident but  I think it looks ok. Overall I think it turned out to be alright and I enjoyed making it.
